Apple Releases iOS 26.4 With AI-Powered Playlists, CarPlay Upgrades, and New AirPods Firmware
The update brings Playlist Playground, offline music recognition, and new emoji to iPhones
The headline feature is Playlist Playground, launching in beta within Apple Music, which uses AI to generate song playlists complete with titles, descriptions, and tracklists based on text prompts. The feature puts Apple in more direct competition with Spotify's AI DJ and playlist generation tools.
Apple Music is also adding concert discovery, letting users find nearby shows featuring artists from their library alongside new recommendations. Full-screen backgrounds for album and playlist pages and an offline music recognition tool round out the music updates.
CarPlay receives two new features in the update, with Apple also laying the groundwork for a bigger CarPlay upgrade expected soon. The company has simultaneously released new firmware for AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and other AirPods models.
The update also includes eight new emoji and at least 12 other changes across the iPhone experience.
