Kompany collapsed during a session for Bayern's reserve team on Friday afternoon. The club issued a statement saying Kompany is undergoing a thorough examination and will remain under medical care, with his coaching staff taking over all training and match-related operations for the time being.
Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said: "Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority. At Bayern, we will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and he will be given as much time as he needs. Everyone at FC Bayern wishes Vinnie a quick recovery."
Kompany had missed training ahead of the Arsenal match due to the virus. After the 2-2 draw, he said: "I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course, I didn't listen to my body – and then at some point my body just said, 'enough is enough!'"
Kompany's former club Manchester City also sent well wishes, posting on X: "Everyone at Manchester City is wishing a speedy recovery to our former captain and Club legend, Vincent Kompany. Get well soon, Vinny."
Bayern are due to travel to Freiburg for a Bundesliga match on Sunday. It remains unclear whether Kompany will be able to return in time for that fixture.
