Storm Adam, the first major autumn storm of the season, left five people dead and triggered a large-scale rescue operation across Spain's Mediterranean coast over the weekend, after torrential rain of up to 800mm in 24 hours flooded towns in Valencia, Alicante and Malaga provinces and pushed authorities into issuing a stay-at-home order covering about 850,000 people.
