Victoria has become the first state to qualify for the federal government's New Homes Bonus, securing $350 million for community infrastructure in growing suburbs and regional areas, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced at the Melbourne Assembly on Tuesday. The announcement came alongside a speech by former New York mayor Bill de Blasio, who urged Melbourne to adopt a 25 per cent mandatory affordable housing requirement on new developments to tackle the housing crisis.
