World · King Charles pays tribute to Aberfan's 'unconquerable spirit' on 60th anniversary of disaster

King Charles III has described the Aberfan disaster, which killed 116 children and 28 adults in 1966, as the 'most tragic of days imaginable' as he joined survivors and bereaved families in the south Wales village for the 60th anniversary. The King, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales joined survivors and bereaved families at the Aberfan Memorial Garden on Wednesday, where wreaths were laid. BBC News reported that a minute's silence was observed on Friday morning at 09:15 BST to mark the moment the coal spoil struck the village.
