Ukrainian scientist Leonid Pshenichnov, arrested by Russia in Crimea in 2025 on treason charges for his Antarctic conservation work, remains in detention more than a year later, Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia said on Monday. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources in Hobart, Vasyl Myroshnychenko raised serious concerns for the 71-year-old’s health and called for his immediate release.
