Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has been awarded $85 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce under the CHIPS Act to develop advanced semiconductors and power electronics tailored for the fusion energy industry. The grant, announced Thursday, also gives the government a stake in the startup, which expects to turn on its Sparc demonstration reactor next year.
