Etsy said Thursday it will prohibit merchants from selling AI-generated recipes, patterns and other instructional guides on its online marketplace, marking a significant step in the company's efforts to preserve buyer trust and protect human creators. The policy, effective immediately, requires sellers to display an actual item made from the instructions rather than an AI-generated simulation.

Etsy has announced stricter policies on the use of AI in product listings, requiring sellers to include at least one unedited photo of the actual item against a real background, in a bid to curb the spread of AI-generated content that buyers and sellers have found confusing and misleading.
