The James Webb Space Telescope has discovered a surprising abundance of heavy metals in gas clouds surrounding Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way. The finding, published in The Astronomical Journal, could help explain how metals forged in supernovae are distributed across galaxies and what that means for the black hole's slow feeding rate.
