Australia · Sandy Brondello inducted into Hall of Fame after 'protected species' controversy

Australian basketball coach Sandy Brondello has been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, months after fearing a controversial sideline comment would tarnish her legacy. Brondello, coach of the Opals and the Toronto Tempo, spoke about the stress of being suspended for describing WNBA star Angel Reese as a "protected species" to referees. Separately, fellow inductee and cricket great Lisa Sthalekar used the platform to push for a major overhaul of the women's cricket calendar.
