Turkey’s parliament has received for ratification the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, a trilateral pact with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia that commits the three countries to mutual defence. The draft treaty, signed in August and now entering the legislative process, includes articles similar to NATO’s collective defence clause and has been publicly linked by Turkish officials to escalating Houthi strikes on Saudi territory.
