Amazon on Thursday unveiled three new tablets: the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Alexa Tablet 11, and the Alexa Tablet 8. The company confirmed to TechCrunch that this is an all-new product line with new hardware and a new operating system, explicitly not a rebrand of the existing Fire Tablets.
The shift to Android grants users immediate access to the Google Play Store and millions of applications, including YouTube, Netflix, and Gmail. This move directly addresses the primary competitive disadvantage of Amazon's previous tablets: a limited app ecosystem.
The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features an aluminum unibody design and a high-resolution 12-inch display with 280 PPI, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It is available in a standard display or a Nanomatte anti-glare option. Amazon claims the device delivers nearly three times the processing performance and nine times the graphics performance of any previous tablet it has shipped. It includes Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, and up to 16 hours of video playback.
The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99, with the Nanomatte model priced from $549.99. Amazon also announced the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard accessories. All new tablets come with built-in access to the Alexa+ AI assistant.
