Anthropic on Thursday released Claude Dashboards, a new beta feature that allows users to build live dashboards connected to enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift and ClickHouse. The company also launched Claude Motion, which uses code to animate reports and charts, and announced that Claude Docs, Slides and Design are now generally available. The move comes roughly a month after OpenAI introduced a similar data agent for ChatGPT Work.

Claude Dashboards is designed to help users explore data by describing what they want to know in natural language. Each figure on a dashboard includes a timestamp and clicking on a number reveals the exact query that produced it. Users who prefer not to read SQL can ask Claude to explain the result in plain language. The dashboards refresh automatically as underlying data changes.

Anthropic is not positioning the tool as a full replacement for business intelligence software. Users who need more advanced analysis can export dashboards to services including Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, monday.com, Omni, PostHog or Sigma. Support for Looker, Perplexity and Tableau is promised for a later date.

The company says Claude Dashboards integrates with its existing connectors, including Salesforce, and supports business definitions exposed through semantic layers.

OpenAI introduced its own data agent for ChatGPT Work about a month ago, connecting to similar enterprise platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB, Snowflake and Datadog. OpenAI’s agent also supports semantic layers like Databricks Genie Ontology.

Data warehouse vendors are not standing still. Snowflake signed a $200 million deal with Anthropic in December 2025, but both Snowflake and Databricks have also developed their own natural-language analytics tools. The two AI companies are competing to become more deeply embedded in enterprise workflows, moving beyond providing tokens to delivering higher-level productivity tools.

Analysis

Why This Matters

  • Enterprises are getting more powerful natural-language interfaces to their data, potentially reducing reliance on specialised BI teams for routine queries.
  • The launch deepens the rivalry between Anthropic and OpenAI in the lucrative enterprise market, where both are racing to add agentic capabilities.
  • By allowing exports to existing BI platforms, Claude Dashboards could become a gateway tool that introduces Claude to organisations already using tools like Grafana or Tableau.

Background

AI companies have been adding data-analysis features to their chatbots for over a year. OpenAI’s Data agent, launched in September 2026, was the first to offer a dedicated dashboard building experience for enterprise data sources. Anthropic’s Claude has steadily added enterprise integrations through partnerships and connector updates. The new dashboard feature continues a trend of AI assistants evolving from chat interfaces into tools that perform structured work on behalf of users.

Key Perspectives

Anthropic: Sees dashboard building as a way for Claude to move up the enterprise productivity stack, giving users a reason to keep Claude open alongside their core BI tools. The export feature ensures compatibility rather than demanding migration. OpenAI: Launched a similar feature a month earlier with broader semantic layer support, signalling that it views data analysis as a critical enterprise use case. Both companies are competing for the same customer base. Data warehouse vendors (Snowflake, Databricks): They have their own natural-language analytics offerings and are working with both AI companies. Snowflake’s $200 million deal with Anthropic shows they see value in co-opting these tools rather than blocking them.

What to Watch

  • Whether Claude Dashboards adoption drives growth in enterprise seats for Anthropic, especially among organisations already using Snowflake or Databricks.
  • The speed at which Anthropic adds support for Looker, Tableau and Perplexity, which could determine how many existing BI users adopt the feature.
  • How OpenAI responds with additional features or data source support for its Data agent.
