Apple has unveiled a new Apple TV 4K, marking the first update to the set-top box in four years. Pre-orders opened today following the company's 'Welcome home' event, with shipping scheduled for November 13.
The headline upgrades include an A19 chip delivering up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and twice the GPU performance of the previous model, plus Siri AI support with what Apple describes as a 'rich, full-screen experience.' Built-in far-field microphones let users say 'Siri' or 'Hey Siri' without pressing a button on the remote.
The upgraded Siri Remote adds Find My support with Precision Finding, and can play a sound through a built-in speaker to help owners locate a misplaced remote.
Audio is also a focus of the new model. It supports a four-speaker surround sound setup using HomePod mini 2 speakers, and home users can build the same configuration with HomePod (2nd generation) speakers, provided the front and rear speaker pairs match.
Only a single model is available, which includes 128GB of storage.
