Graham, 43, played 37 games for West Coast between 2005 and 2008 before building a reputation as an assistant coach, most recently at Fremantle who fell close to winning this year's premiership. He has previously coached three AFL games: one in 2018 covering for Adam Simpson at West Coast and two in 2022 at Fremantle when Justin Longmuir was sidelined by COVID-19.
The appointment comes a day after Nathan Buckley withdrew from the Kangaroos' coaching race, and on the opening day of the AFL trade period. Graham made a presentation to North Melbourne's coaching search panel in Melbourne on Saturday and was scheduled to present to the club's board on Monday for ratification.
The North Melbourne job is the third senior coaching role Graham has vied for this season, having missed out to Josh Fraser at Carlton and Mark McVeigh at Essendon. He will inherit a young list with a number of top-end draft picks.
