The final novel by author Kerry Greenwood has been published eighteen months after her death, following the discovery of a manuscript by her partner David Greagg.

Greagg found the completed manuscript in an old email account, where it was awaiting Greenwood's response to a 2023 email. Her health nosedived in the 18 months before her death. “I missed it,” Greagg told the ABC. “It was sitting in an old email account; it was totally my fault.”

Greenwood, who died in March 2025 at age 70, was the creator of the Phryne Fisher detective series and the Corinna Chapman cosy crime series. Just Desserts is the eighth book in the Chapman series, which began in 2004. "Like Phryne Fisher, Corinna was a feminist heroine," publisher Annette Barlow said. "Kerry wanted to show a plus-size woman who was healthy and happy."

“To a publisher, some authors are just a gift and, for me, Kerry was one of those authors,” Barlow said. “She was wise, kind, appreciative and talented.” Over her career, Greenwood's books sold over 700,000 copies in Australia and New Zealand, matched internationally. Her Phryne Fisher character featured in the hit ABC TV series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

Greagg, who was Greenwood's life partner of 50 years and business manager, described their relationship as unconventional. He is working on a posthumous autobiography of the author. He recalled their tradition of celebrating new books with champagne, where Greenwood would ask if she had been a good cat.
