OpenAI's GPT 6 models to arrive on Google Cloud and Antigravity

Google Cloud will offer OpenAI's frontier models alongside Gemini and Claude, including in its agent-powered coding tool

OpenAI's latest frontier models will soon be available through Google Cloud and in Google's agent-powered coding tool Antigravity, under a new arrangement between the two companies. The models will join Google's Model Garden, which already hosts Google's Gemini family, a range of open models, and Anthropic's Claude.

Google's Model Garden is set to add OpenAI's models in the coming weeks, expanding its catalogue of more than 200 options, according to Ars Technica. The full suite of current GPT 6 and 6.1 models, named Astra, Sol, and Luna, will launch on the platform. Astra will be the most expensive of the three to run.

Google Cloud already offers access to its own Gemini models, along with open models such as Mistral, Llama, and Gemma. Anthropic's Claude has also been available for some time. With the addition of OpenAI, Google says it will be the only major cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed large language models.

OpenAI notes that Microsoft continues to be its primary cloud partner. The arrangement appears aimed at enterprise customers seeking flexibility: Google says its system can dynamically move workloads between models based on performance, latency, and efficiency.

Analysis

Why This Matters

  • Enterprise customers will be able to compare and switch between leading models without leaving Google Cloud.
  • The deal gives OpenAI a second major distribution channel for its most advanced models.
  • Cloud rivalry intensifies as providers compete to offer the broadest model choice.

Background

Cloud providers have increasingly opened their platforms to rivals' AI models, a shift from earlier years when each cloud aggressively pushed its own models. Google's Model Garden is part of a broader trend toward model marketplaces, letting developers mix and match offerings. The arrangement with OpenAI is unusual because Google is simultaneously developing its own competing Gemini models, while Microsoft, a major Google Cloud competitor, remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner.

Key Perspectives

Google: Positioned itself as the cloud provider with the widest range of model options, now adding OpenAI's frontier models to its catalogue and its agent-powered coding tool. OpenAI: Gains additional reach in enterprise and developer markets while maintaining Microsoft as its primary cloud partner. Market observers: The arrangement shows how cloud and AI companies are forming complex, sometimes overlapping partnerships in a fast-moving market.

What to Watch

  • Whether Google Cloud's model routing features steer enterprise workloads toward OpenAI models.
  • Any competitive response from Microsoft and its Azure OpenAI offerings.
  • Pricing for OpenAI models on Google Cloud, particularly Astra, and how demand shifts between providers.
