The follow-up program, totalling 1896 metres, was designed to step out from PLC's maiden five-hole campaign in May, which returned low-level but consistent gold and suggested the drilling may have only clipped the edge of a larger mineralised system.
Executive director Simon Phillips said the latest logging showed exactly the geology the company set out to find: sheared zones of sulphides within the fractionated dolerite. PLC's working theory involves mineralising fluids interacting with iron-rich dolerite, altering primary sulphides and potentially precipitating gold. The company noted that a similar "sulphidation" process is a key ingredient in major Yilgarn gold deposits, including those hosted by the Golden Mile Dolerite that hosts the Kalgoorlie Super Pit.
The confirmation of sheared zones, sulphides and magnetite-bearing intervals lends weight to PLC's exploration model, but the true test will come with the assay results now awaited from the lab.
