The integration, announced on Wednesday, connects Stripe's wallet infrastructure with the XRP Ledger, enabling automated payments by AI agents and other software. Users can now transact using XRP and RLUSD directly through Stripe's wallet ecosystem, bridging Ripple's blockchain with one of the largest payment platforms globally.
Ripple said the move is intended to support the growing trend of machine-to-machine payments, where AI systems pay for compute time, data access, or API calls without human intervention. The company noted that AI payments on the XRP Ledger have now exceeded 14 million transactions, a milestone that underscores the demand for autonomous payment rails.
However, CoinDesk observed that questions remain about how much real economic activity the transactions represent. Without details on average transaction value or the nature of the services being paid for, it is difficult to assess whether the volume reflects genuine commercial use or low-value test traffic.
The partnership leverages Stripe's existing wallet technology, which the payments giant has built through acquisitions. Ripple's XRP Ledger provides low-cost, fast settlement, making it attractive for microtransactions typical in AI agent scenarios.
No financial terms of the integration were disclosed, and neither Ripple nor Stripe provided additional comments beyond the announcement.
