Ripple announced on Oct. 15 that Ripple Prime will act as the principal counterparty for the swaps, which trade around the clock and reference perpetual contracts that Trade.xyz lists on Hyperliquid.
The product offers consolidated margining across the supported asset classes and accepts RLUSD as eligible collateral, subject to jurisdiction. It runs through Ripple Prime's British Virgin Islands entity, with other regions planned.
The launch builds on Ripple Prime's February integration with Hyperliquid and the total-return swaps on equities, indices and digital assets announced in August. The new elements are the Trade.xyz reference markets and continuous trading.
According to 0xArchive, Trade.xyz handled $59.4 billion of perpetual volume in September, representing 23.9% of Hyperliquid's total, across 110 listed markets. Weekend volume averaged $541 million a day. These figures are venue-wide.
Trade.xyz's oracle references conventional prices during external trading sessions and switches to internal pricing from its own order book when those inputs go quiet, with the oracle adjusting toward that book over 30 minutes. For Tesla, the venue's specification lists a 5% discovery bound in either direction, with two resets per direction, and external pricing runs from Sunday evening to Friday evening Eastern time.
The pricing model carries risk. An 0xArchive study of 614 market-weekends found the final weekend price was closer to the reopening price than the Friday close in 70.7% of observations, with median absolute error falling from 113.3 to 53.4 basis points. The sample required at least $1 million of weekend volume per observation, and the Hyperliquid Policy Center funded the research.
Ripple illustrated the dynamic with a hypothetical: an institution holding $10 million long at a $100 Friday reference would show about $400,000 of mark-to-market gain if the synthetic market climbed 4% to $104 while the exchange was closed. If the stock reopened at $101, the derivative would need to realign, a gap of about 2.9% of the weekend price, with margin and hedge adjustments falling in that window.
