The review was launched after a man was given a copy of a guest's key at a Travelodge in Maidenhead in 2022 and committed a serious sexual assault. The incident led to a conviction and prompted the company to commission an independent investigation. The report's findings are damning, saying that guests are still at risk. It found that room intrusions occurred at nearly one in 10 hotels over the summer months.
The report recommends a new policy to address violence against women and girls, improved safety policies for staff working alone, body cameras for all reception staff, consistent CCTV systems across all hotels, and the introduction of mystery shoppers to test key security procedures.
The full 70-page document has been published and outlines the steps Travelodge says it will take to address the concerns.
