Freshly minted as a premiership-winning halfback after the Roosters' one-point grand final win over Newcastle, the 24-year-old placed contract discussions on hold in August amid reports his camp was seeking close to $1.7 million a season over four years from 2028.
With the title secured, Walker's management will reopen talks with the club while he competes for a World Cup crown under coach Kevin Walters.
Lured to the Roosters from Queensland at age 16, Walker has made his preference clear: he wants to remain in Sydney's eastern suburbs. Roosters chairman Nick Politis is also confident of retaining him.
The remaining hurdle is the financial terms. Reports indicate a gulf of $1 million between the player's asking price and the team's four-year offer.
"Fingers crossed," Walker said of the prospect of reaching an agreement before November 1.
