Violence flares again in Thailand's deep south as peace talks stall
Deadly July checkpoint attack and August infrastructure raids follow years of stalled negotiations
A July attack on a security checkpoint in Thailand's Narathiwat province killed five members of the security forces and wounded six civilians, including a 10-year-old boy, in the latest flare-up of the decades-old insurgency in the country's far south. More than 50 coordinated attacks followed in August, mainly targeting infrastructure, and no group claimed responsibility.
