Olivia Chow wins second term as Toronto mayor with decisive victory
Incumbent defeated Brad Bradford by 13 percentage points in a record-turnout election, as progressive candidates also gained council seats
Olivia Chow has been re-elected as mayor of Toronto for a second term, winning 54 per cent of the vote against rival Brad Bradford’s 41 per cent in a tightly fought contest that saw record turnout. The 69-year-old incumbent’s dominant 13-point victory defied pre-election polls that had suggested a dead heat, and she promptly pledged to pursue rental housing, free school lunches, and reduced transit fares for frequent riders.
