Astronomers may have discovered the first moon beyond our Solar System
Massive object orbiting a brown dwarf challenges definitions of moons and planets
Using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope, astronomers have detected what may be the first known moon outside our Solar System, a giant gaseous body in the CD-35 2722 star system that blurs the line between planets and moons. The candidate exosatellite, described in a study published in Nature, circles a brown dwarf rather than a planet, and its mass rivals that of Jupiter.
