Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu found guilty of incitement
High Court acquits him of treason; sentencing yet to be announced in case raising political freedom concerns
Tanzania's main opposition leader, Tundu Lissu, has been found guilty of incitement by a panel of three judges at the High Court in Dar es Salaam, though he was acquitted of the more serious charge of treason. The 58-year-old Chadema party leader has been detained since April 2025 and was charged over remarks he made while campaigning for electoral reforms ahead of the disputed 2025 general election.
