Spain introduces paid menopause sick leave from December 2026
Measure extends labour protection for women, following 2023 menstruation leave considered pioneering in Europe
Spain will introduce paid sick leave for female workers suffering from incapacitating health problems linked to the menopause, effective 1 December 2026, after the government approved the reform on 20 October. The new right allows women to receive a benefit from the second day of leave without needing a minimum social security contribution period.
