Kenyan researcher maps gut bacteria to help fight E.coli
Finding links healthier microbiomes with better defence against dangerous strains
Kenyan disease ecologist Eric Ng'eno mapped microorganisms in participants' guts in an informal settlement in Nairobi, where E.coli was prevalent, as he researched how to combat the displacement of healthy gut bacteria by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. His research found healthier microbiomes were better equipped to fight off more dangerous strains of E.coli.
