Taoiseach plans Futures Study Initiative on island’s constitutional future
Project invites all parties including unionists to engage in evidence-based study of constitutional options
The Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Micheál Martin has announced plans for a new ‘Futures Study Initiative’ to examine the constitutional future of the island of Ireland. The initiative aims to provide an objective, independent knowledge base and will examine three core scenarios: a unitary republic with no devolved government in Northern Ireland, a united Ireland with a devolved government there, and a continuation of current Good Friday Agreement arrangements without constitutional change.
