Drone strikes emerge as new threat, accounting for 40 per cent of conflict-zone deaths
Impunity for journalist murders has risen for the first time in more than a decade, reaching 86 per cent in 2024-2025, according to a new report from UNESCO. The biennial study documented 189 journalist and media worker deaths, the highest toll since 2014-2015, and identified the growing use of drones to kill journalists, which UNESCO called a disturbing new threat.
