Ministers target ‘wild west’ of pavement-blocking e-bikes
Plans aim to set national standards and examine fleet-size guidance, possible insurance requirements and whether councils and mayors should control rental fees
Ministers are seeking to end the “wild west” of e-bikes blocking pavements, with a consultation aiming to establish national standards for shared bike schemes and plans to give local leaders more control over parking. The Department for Transport-led consultation will also look at antisocial riding, including cyclists jumping red lights, and consider possible insurance requirements so someone hit by a rider on a hired e-bike can claim compensation.
