New images show Polmont riot damage as prison population could reach 9,450
Chief executive warns system is close to breaking point; opposition parties call for action
New images released by the Scottish Prison Service have revealed the extent of destruction caused during last month’s riot at HMP & YOI Polmont, which the prison service has described as the worst disorder in a Scottish jail in a decade. The release coincides with Scottish Government projections that the prison population could reach 9,450 by June 2027, 1,650 above the estate’s design capacity.
