Workers dumped from employer housing after Indigenous youth service closure
CEO says federal bodies reneged on funding commitments as workers lose jobs and some homes
Former workers at an Indigenous youth services organisation in Western Australia's Kimberley region say they were given less than a week's notice to leave their employer-provided accommodation after the Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation (WYAC) closed suddenly in mid-September. Chief executive Neville D'Silva blamed federal agencies for reneging on promised funding, which he said led to a “trading halt”; he said there were no funds, so termination was mandatory.
