NSW Liberals face $2m settlement over council candidate nomination failure
Party missed deadline for 2024 local elections, sparking class action
The New South Wales Liberal Party is set to pay an estimated $2 million to settle a class action brought by more than 40 would-be councillors who were denied the chance to contest the 2024 local government elections after the party's state arm failed to submit their nomination forms on time. The proposed settlement, lodged with the Supreme Court, includes compensation, fee waivers and campaign funding, and is set to be considered by the court on December 11.
