From Polmont to medical degree: Former young offender set to graduate as junior doctor
Steven Beattie, who spent his teenage years in and out of a young offenders institution, will graduate as a doctor after turning his life around
Steven Beattie, who was sent to Polmont young offenders institution at 16 for crashing a stolen car and returned repeatedly over four years as his involvement with gangs grew, is about to graduate as a junior doctor from the University of Dundee Medical School in June. He credits being locked up for 23 hours a day and having his TV removed after a fight with giving him an opportunity to consider his future, leading him to write a plan that he stuck to.
