Tasmania's lower house begins debate on conversion practices ban as Rockliff confirms support
Amendments expected from both sides; Labor and crossbench back the Greens bill
Tasmania's lower house has begun debating a Greens bill to ban conversion practices, with Premier Jeremy Rockliff backing the legislation while seeking amendments to strengthen religious protections. The bill follows a 2022 recommendation from the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute and would outlaw practices that aim to change, suppress or eradicate a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
