Fire at Canadian military base moved a kilometre in '30 to 60 seconds', official says

The fire that killed four Canadian soldiers and injured dozens at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright on Saturday moved with extraordinary speed, engulfing a training area in less than a minute, according to military officials. Major General Wade Rutland, commander of the 1st Canadian Division, said the fire travelled a kilometre in 30 to 60 seconds after a wind shift. Officials have ruled out terrorism and are investigating the cause, which may have involved a gas main struck during a live firing exercise, though this remains unconfirmed.
