Federal government may reroute border wall through Texas wildlife refuge to resolve lawsuit
Original plan on irrigation district levee suspended after court order
The federal government is considering redirecting a planned border wall off a levee adjacent to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge and onto the refuge itself, a move aimed at resolving a trespass lawsuit filed by the Hidalgo County Irrigation District No. 2. The potential change was disclosed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lance Duke during a federal court hearing on Oct. 14.
