Record turnout in Serbia election as student movement challenges Vučić
Preliminary reports show 46% voter turnout by early afternoon, nearly a million more than in 2023
Serbia's parliamentary election on Sunday saw record high turnout, with preliminary reports showing 46% of voters had cast ballots by 14:00 local time, nearly a million more than at the same point in the December 2023 election. The high turnout is fueling hopes for the anti-corruption Student List movement, which aims to end the rule of Aleksandar Vučić's Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which has been in power since 2012.
