Scientists identify hidden driver of high cholesterol and possible way to stop it
Experimental drug previously tested for safety in humans may target newly discovered pathway, researchers say
Researchers at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine have identified a previously unknown biological mechanism that enables high-cholesterol diets to reduce the liver's ability to clear harmful LDL cholesterol from the blood, and they have found an experimental drug that may block this pathway and has already passed initial human safety testing.
