Ultra-thin mesh harnesses heartbeats to power medical implants
University of Massachusetts researchers develop a flexible electronic grid that integrates with living cells, generating electricity from their movements
Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have created an ultra-thin, flexible electronic mesh that integrates with living human heart cells and converts their mechanical contractions into electricity, achieving more than ten times the energy density of conventional energy-harvesting approaches. The device, described in a study published in Science Advances, offers a potential way to power medical implants and wearables without bulky batteries.
