Five rescued after three months adrift on remote Kiribati island
Survivors were part of a group of nine whose boat went missing on a short crossing in Micronesia in July
Five people, including two children, have been rescued on Fanning Island in Kiribati, about three months after their boat went missing during a crossing in the Federated States of Micronesia. The five were among nine who set off on what was meant to be a routine one-hour crossing between Murilo and Ruo on July 30, but were caught in a storm; the five drifted an estimated 5,400 kilometres.
