Apple has rolled out iOS 27.2, a significant update that expands the language capabilities of its Siri AI assistant and addresses a wide range of security vulnerabilities. Siri AI can now be used in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, though these remain in beta. The assistant gains the ability to remember details from past conversations and use that information in future answers, a feature that rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google have also been developing.
The update introduces Apple Pencil support for the foldable iPhone Duo in apps like Notes and Preview, and adds an Edge Light effect to improve face visibility during video calls. Multi-camera streaming is now available on FaceTime through Dual Capture for group calls, and users can add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner. In Messages, users can turn a message into a reminder or calendar event, while the Podcasts app gets a redesigned interface showing new episodes and current listening.
Multiview comes to the iPhone, allowing viewers to watch up to four live sport streams simultaneously from services such as Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the United States, and Friday Night Baseball. Multiple feeds of F1 broadcasts are also supported.
On the security front, iOS 27.2 contains over 160 fixes. Apple backported several patches to iOS 26, which still runs on about 80 percent of iPhones. One specific fix was also backported to iOS 18, first released in 2024, which Apple said may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions before iOS 27. The company did not provide details on who was behind the exploit, a standard description Apple uses when government spyware or law enforcement forensic devices have been involved.
