Entire, the startup founded by former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke, on Monday launched a full GitHub alternative that replaces the traditional pull request model with an agentic code review system called Trails, aiming to solve the code review bottleneck in an era where AI agents generate large volumes of code.

Entire, the startup founded by former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke, on Monday launched its GitHub alternative, introducing a new code review system called Trails that moves beyond the traditional pull request model.

In a keynote at the Linux Foundation's AGNTCon + MCPcon in San Jose, Dohmke described the growing review queue: agents producing more changes, and those changes containing more code. "I open a pull request, and I realize I have no idea what all that code does," he said of his experience using coding agents.

Trails gives developers a dashboard with customizable evaluations scored by agents. The system may assess risk, intent drift, and other factors on every push, with results available via web interface and an open-source CLI. Coding agents can use feedback to push revisions while developers validate progress. By default, Entire provides preset review agents, but developers can define their own configurations using a JSON file and choose among supported Claude and OpenAI models.

"We're redefining how the developer lifecycle works, and it's really cool," Dohmke said. "I've been at home in the evenings, sitting on my couch, and texting my agents — all the while getting links from my team to their Trails on Slack and opening them."

Entire's platform also includes a distributed Git-compatible server that it says can push up to 89 times faster than GitHub and six times faster than Cursor's Origin. The server offers private repositories in specific regions: the U.S., Europe, India, and Australia, with data governance in mind. Customers choose a primary region and can add mirrors elsewhere.

A third pillar, Continuous Memory, syncs AI agent sessions into a project's repository, preserving rejected approaches and context for future tasks. It combines a codebase graph with an "agentic brain" that turns past sessions into queryable memories.

The platform is free for hosting; customers pay only for tokens consumed by review agents, with a $100 starter credit. Dohmke said users will later pay market rates for their chosen model, with the company's business model based on arbitrage between its discounts and that market rate. Entire is also partnering with Buildkite and Depot for continuous integration, allowing developers to convert existing GitHub Actions workflows.

The launch comes two days before GitHub Universe 2026, GitHub's flagship developer event.

Analysis

Why This Matters

  • Challenges GitHub's dominance with a new approach designed for AI agent workflows, directly addressing the code review bottleneck developers face as AI-generated code increases.
  • Offers data governance features with region-specific private repositories, an increasingly important capability for corporate users.
  • Signals a potential shift in developer tooling from manual pull requests to agent-scored evaluations, impacting how teams collaborate on code.

Background

Entire was founded by Thomas Dohmke, former GitHub CEO, and announced a $60 milllion seed round in February. The startup has been releasing components of its platform gradually, with the full Git hosting infrastructure and Trails now launching. The announcement coincides with the eve of GitHub Universe 2026, positioning Entire as a direct competitor.

What to Watch

  • Adoption by developers and teams, especially those heavily using AI coding agents, and whether Trails reduces review time without sacrificing quality.
  • GitHub's response at its upcoming Universe event, which may include new features to counter Entire's value proposition.
  • Pricing sustainability: Entire's token-based model for review agents could be a competitive factor if costs scale predictably for users.
