Apple has opened pre-orders for its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, with the device set to arrive in customers' hands on October 23. The phone was originally unveiled at an event Apple called "Surprise and shine," alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer display that unfolds into a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display. It is powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip and comes with a dual-camera system on the back, including a 48MP Main camera and a 48MP Ultra Wide camera. There is also a Center Stage camera on the front and a FaceTime camera underneath the inner display.
According to Apple, the device's large display enhances productivity with Split View multitasking and seamless app switching. The iOS interface adapts as the phone folds, reorienting content and switching between displays as needed. The iPhone Duo can also enter StandBy mode on either screen, even while not charging, turning it into a photo frame, widget hub, or clock.
The device lacks Face ID, instead using a Touch ID sensor along its edge for biometric authentication. It carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the back and Ceramic Shield covering the front display. Apple Pencil support is expected to arrive later this year.
Pre-orders are available through Apple's website and the Apple Store app. Prices are as follows: $1,999 for the 256GB model, $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB, and $3,199 for 2TB. Carrier offers are also available, with monthly payments from $55 and up to $1,200 off with an eligible trade-in.
The iPhone Duo is offered in two colors: star white and night sky.
Apple's website and app are being brought back online in waves, so some customers may see the pre-order option appear later than others.
