Chuvalo compiled a record of 73 victories, 18 losses, and two draws over a professional career that spanned from the 1950s to the late 1970s. His hallmark was an iron chin: in all 93 bouts, he never once touched the canvas from a punch.
He faced Ali in 1966 and again in 1972, losing both decisions but earning Ali's profound respect. The former world champion later called Chuvalo the toughest man he ever fought.
Sully's Boxing, the Toronto gym where Chuvalo trained, mourned his passing in a statement: "His photos have hung on our walls for decades. His stories have been passed down from one generation of fighters to the next."
While Chuvalo never held a world title, his durability and willingness to face the best of his era — including Joe Frazier and George Foreman — cemented his reputation as one of boxing's most rugged heavyweights.
