Daniel Billings, the ex-boyfriend of Molly Ticehurst, has been sentenced for her murder but will not receive a life sentence, according to Justice Natalie Adams of the New South Wales Supreme Court. Ticehurst, a 28-year-old childcare educator, was found dead in her home at Forbes, in the New South Wales central-west, in the early hours of 22 April 2024.
Justice Adams said she was troubled by expert evidence about rape allegations contained in Ticehurst’s police statement. The case drew widespread attention and helped galvanise a national movement against gendered abuse in Australia.
