Two 16-year-old boys have been killed and two 17-year-old boys seriously injured after the car they were in crashed into trees south of Perth on Saturday evening, with footage appearing to show it caught fire shortly after.
The crash occurred about 10.20pm on Railway Parade in Bullsbrook, near the Twin Swamps Nature Reserve. The boys were travelling north in a grey BMW sedan; it is understood the car left the road near the reserve and crashed into several trees. Footage taken by witnesses appears to show the car catching fire shortly afterwards.
The two 16-year-olds died at the scene. The two 17-year-olds were taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where they remain in a serious condition.
Police cordoned off Railway Parade and Warbrook Road while investigators examined the scene, and Railway Parade remained closed until early Sunday morning. The wreck of the car was removed on Sunday.
Detectives said they would examine the cause of the crash and asked anyone who may have had dashcam vision of the car before the incident to contact them. A WA police spokesperson said Major Crash investigators were examining the scene and appealed for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.
