Court of Appeal says ransom kidnapping may be trafficking exploitation
Decision opens the way to fresh referrals for asylum seekers previously refused trafficking protection
The Court of Appeal has rejected the Home Office's argument that being kidnapped for ransom is not exploitation of trafficking victims, a ruling that means claims from many people previously excluded under trafficking rules will now have to be considered. People kidnapped for ransom, whom officials had refused to recognise as victims of exploitation, may now be eligible for the support and recovery package trafficking victims are entitled to.
