Holiday fares projected to hit a 10-year high; Black Friday hotel deals may only match last year’s prices
Thanksgiving round trips average $402, Christmas $452, as elevated fuel costs and tight supply limit discounts
Holiday travel fares are on track to be the most expensive in a decade, with domestic round-trip Thanksgiving flights averaging $402 and Christmas flights $452, according to Hopper's 2026 Holiday Travel Index. A 15% Black Friday discount on a Christmas hotel room would bring the cost to about $167 a night, roughly what the average Christmas room cost a year ago, suggesting promotional prices may only pull surge-priced rooms back to last year's levels.
